Rādhā's ecstatic emotions and vamata as embraced by Kṛṣṇa

1-6 After Kundalata's Kandarpa yajña failed (due to many impediments) Kṛṣṇa becomes dejected. Thus Kundalata, pretending to commiserate, offers him solace: "Hey Kṛṣṇa! Because you're Paśupati (Śiva) your activities have destroyed Kandarpa. Hence, with Kandarpa's demise, your yajña turned into a fiasco. Thus the dik-pala yajña devīs, the Sakhīs, are unfavorable. So you've lost claim to the fruits of the sacrifice! Oh Kṛṣṇa! As you're submissive to love, now your only recourse is to revert to your Paśupati-dharma. In other words, just as Paśupati Śiva gave half of his body to Parvati, you can surrender yourself to your dear ones!"

Hearing this advice, Kṛṣṇa answers, "Hey Kundalate! You are right! Now I remember because I give everyone happiness I'm known as Śiva in the Purāṇas. Therefore, as Śiva gave himself, I'll do the same. But I'll give my entire body to my Preyasī Rādhā! Thus, my submission in love, my rasika nature and my virtue as a great donor will be celebrated even more than the so-called Śiva!"

Noticing Rādhā alert and fearful from the corner of his eye, Kṛṣṇa slips behind her. Then Rāising his arms to embrace her, he says, "Hey Gauri Ai, ai (come, come)! I'm Candra- Śekhara! Just embrace me!" Thus, speaking Kṛṣṇa catches Rādhā on the run!

When Kṛṣṇa declares "I'm Candra-Śekhara," he means, "from head to toe, I am shining with the moon-like skill of śṛṅgāra rasa! So just embrace your limbs with mine!"

7 Rādhā slightly smiles, rebukes Kṛṣṇa with a faltering shriek... and somehow manages to escape Kṛṣṇa's grasp! Then standing before him she shows jealous anger!

Rādhā: "Aha! What a calamity! Because you don't have a pinch of decency-you're thinking that we're all the same! Jaṭilā is on her way-so watch out! Are you a heartless tiger wishing to prey on defenceless young women? Hey you intoxicated brute! Let go, I'm greatly offended!" Using such tart prema vānī (loving words) Rādhārani rebukes Kṛṣṇa.

8 But coincidentally, a swarm of bees flock to Rādhā's fragrant mouth....and hearing their steady drone frightens her! Thus Rādhā's eyes restlessly move about as she loses composure to embrace her Prāṇa Govinda for support!

Padmini Rāi's 'vag-vilāsa' (sweet, argumentative words) are filled with madhu. Hence a swarm of bees discard their interest for the flowers and soar to her mouth! Although Rādhā isn't afraid of the bees, she feigns fear (showing the cakita-alaṅkāra - pretentious fear) to fulfill her inner desires.

9 Seeing the Sakhīs smiling, Rādhā feels embarrassed and lowers her head. But as she tries to separate herself from Kṛṣṇa, he squeezes tighter, so she is unable to escape! Thus, Kṛṣṇa appears like a nava jaladhara embracing a saudamini! (streak of lightning)

Ṭīkā: When the nāyikā refutes and gives opposition by shunning the nāyaka's advances-this is called her vama disposition. Rādhā is Kṛṣṇa's vamya manohara vinodini (resisting mind-stealing enchantress). Although Dhani-mani Rādhā controls Kṛṣṇa with her vama-nature, she is not one to disallow him a sporting chance to touch her. Thus, Rādhā's cakita alaṅkāra awakens as Rādhā's pretentious fear awakens, Kṛṣṇa takes full advantage as the Sakhīs look on with broad smiles!

10-11 Rādhā's body, mind and speech are jolted by the uncontrollable 'devīs of emotion' residing within her. With the sudden advent of envy, shame, joy and resistance, Rādhā's behavior becomes an interesting spectacle for all! Thus, she cries, laughs, curses, pleads, scolds and blasphemes Kṛṣṇa, as regret and meekness also awaken! Then Rādhā pulls herself loose from Kṛṣṇa's firm grip, giving joy to him and to the Sakhīs, too!

Ṭīkā: Rādhā pleads: "Aha! Just take my head-but please, don't caste me into an ocean of shame!"

She blasphemes: "Even the lowest type of lusty brute doesn't torture a helpless frightened lady-is this the act of a cruel hunter? A ruthless dacoit has discretion about when and where to plunder-but even such judgement is lacking in you!"

Then Rādhā swears: "Aha! Finding a chance to take advantage, your shrewdness has reached a pinnacle! So, if you don't repent-you're going to suffer!"

Then Rādhā regrets: "Hay! How inauspicious it was to leave home, why did I come to bathe in this Ariṣṭa Kuṇḍa anyway? I've surely learned my lesson!"

Next, Rādhā meekly implores: "I fall at your feet, please don't torment me anymore!"
