Maṇimaya Muralī - Kṛṣṇa-Bhāvanāmṛta
Ṭīkā: Switching back to Kṛṣṇa-Bhāvanāmṛta, where is presented an event from another day, related to Kṛṣṇa's lost Vaṁśī. After receiving the Pūjā dakṣinā, Viśva Śarma tells Rādhikā: "Hey Satī-kula cūḍā-maṇi (crownjewel amongst the chaste women)! Just say the mantra 'bhāsvate namaḥ', perform parikrama of Sūrya deva and offer Prāṇams."
Doing what she is told, Rādhikā loses herself in thought of her Prāṇa-vallabha's antics! Thus, while offering Prāṇams, Kṛṣṇa's maṇimaya (jewelled) Muralī falls from her veni, making a ṭhanāt sound upon the floor! "What's that?" Jaṭilā shrieks. Then she comes over, picks up the Muralī and recognizes it! Jaṭilā is infuriated! Her face turns red, her body starts shaking and she loudly screams "Hoo, hoo, hoo, hoo, hoo!"
Mṛga-nayana Rādhikā is very frightened; but somehow, she gathers the courage to answer: "Arye (respected one)! Today we found this Muralī lying in a valley near Govardhan. Because it always tortures us, we're going to throw it in the Yamunā; why are you needlessly becoming angry?"
But Rādhikā's plea only aggravates Jaṭilā further. Thus, she goes on scoffing: "Hey Kalaṅkini! You've ruined our family's good name! I see, you've been cheating on me every day like this! Ha! Today I shall display this crooked Muralī in the elderly Vraja-vāsinī (woman's) assembly! Then we'll all decide the befitting punishment for you and your kāmuka (lusty man)!"
Overhearing the feud, the vipra-clad Rasika Nāgara says, "Oh Jaṭilā! Why are you angry? And why are you screaming at your baumā? Although I don't know what is going on, you can frankly tell me the problem. As your well-wisher, let's see if I can help straighten things out?"
"Hey Vipra-varya!" Jaṭilā says, "Do you know Vraja Rāja Nanda?"
"Oh yes!" the brāhmaṇa-clad Kṛṣṇa replies, "Who hasn't heard of his fame in Madhu- puri?"
"Well, he has a notorious son," Jaṭilā exclaims.
"Oh, is he the one who killed Aghasura, Bakasura and Kesi?" Viśva Śarma asks.
"Yes, we have also heard about his glories in Mathurā."
But Jaṭilā retorts: "Well, just hear about that rascal's character! Because of him there isn't one taruṇī left in Vraja Mandal who can claim to be chaste- only my baumā remained! And who knows, perhaps tomorrow she will also become molested by that notorious lampaṭa! Hey vipra-vara!
This is his Muralī! Its enchanting song carries a magic mantra that drives the Vraja kiśorīs mad! Thus, they foresake their families and come searching for that wanton Muralī dhara! Then they meet, and...," Saying this, Jaṭilā contorts her face in shame, bites her lips and exclaims "Oṁ Viṣṇu! Oṁ Viṣṇu!" and become silent.
After hearing Jaṭilā's story, the vipra-clad Kṛṣṇa gently smiles and says, "Hey old one! What is this Muralī? I've never seen it; can you show me?" Jaṭilā places the flute in Nāgara-Rāja's hand, and Kṛṣṇa beings to look at the Muralī (pretending that he never saw it before).
Then Jaṭilā says, "Hey Arya! (respected one) you know what is a suitable dakṣinā. How about this maṇimaya Muralī? Why don't you take it? Let it go with you to Mathurā Puri. And hereafter the Vraja Gopīs chastity will be saved!"
Thus, Jaṭilā says, "Now please give permission, I shall return home with my baumā. O hey Guṇa-nidhe (one of jewel like qualities)! Please come daily to engage Rādhā in Sūrya Pūjā as she is your bhakta, please make her happy!"
