 Short u in a word appears under the consonant ु (the squiggle is the placeholder for the consonant - first the consonant is written, e.g. ka and then u, see examples below).

कुल - kula - read - kul - family, community, school - character "k g n" Eglish keyboard

कुटिल - kuṭila - read - kutil - crooked, dishonest (the name of Radha's mother-in-law) - character "k g ' f n" Eglish keyboard
