Duty to meditate
Caitanya Caritāmṛta Madhya 8.253
dhyeya madhye jīvera kartavya kon dhyāna
rādhā kṛṣṇa padāmbuja dhyāna pradhāna
Of all kinds of meditation, which meditation is the duty of the living entity? -madhye dhyeya dhyeya kon dhyāna kartavya jīvera
Meditation on the lotus-like feet of Radha and Krișna is essential. - pradhāna dhyāna pada ambuja rādhā kṛṣṇa
Tika: Sūta Gosvāmī says, addressing the saints led by Śaunaka, as recorded in the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam (1.2.14):
tasmād ekena manasā bhagavān sātvatāḿ patiḥ
śrotavyaḥ kīrtitavyaś ca dhyeyaḥ pūjyaś ca nityadā
"Therefore everyone should concentrate his mind - tasmād ekena manasā
on the Transcendental Lord, the protector of the transcendentalists - bhagavān patiḥ sātvatāḿ
and hear (about Him), - ca śrotavyaḥ
glorify Him, - kīrtitavyaś
meditate on Him - dhyeyaḥ
and worship Him constantly. - ca pūjyaś nityadā.
Some Gaudiya Vaishnavas claim that meditation is not important at all, but only the chanting of the Hare Krishna mantra and the service of distributing the literature presented by their guru. They don't want to hear about Rāgānuga Sādhana Bhakti at all
.
