75-85 Viśva Śarma as palm reader

75 Viśva Śarma goes on: "I'm Garga Muni's disciple, an astrologer, a palm reader and a clairvoyant- I know all of the Jyotiṣa-Śāstras by heart. But for dakṣinā, your priti is my greatest reward."

Ṭīkā: Under the guise of being niṣkāma ("self-satīsfied") before Jaṭilā, Kṛṣṇa hints to Rādhā, "Your love is my only motivation!"

76-80 Then Jaṭilā whispers into Kundalatā's ear, who in turn relays the message, "O brāhmaṇa kumar! Honorable Jaṭilā is requesting you to look at Rādhā's hand and tell her the future.""Oh no! I never look at women," says the brāhmaṇa-disguised Kṛṣṇa. "But since you have such pure affection for me, I'll agree."

Kṛṣṇa instructs Kundalatā: "just hold this chaste young women's hand befor me." But shaking, tears and horripilation overtake Kṛṣṇa as he looks on! "How astonishing!" exclaims Kṛṣṇa (trying to cover his sāttvika emotions). "From the marks on this girl's hand I see that she's directly Lakṣmī Svarūpinī!"

"Aha! This young damsel's merciful glance will bring all opulence! And wherever she remains, auspiciousness will flourish!"The inner meaning is: "When Rādhā blesses me with her Aṅga saṅga I become supremely fortunate!"

81-83 Then Kṛṣṇa asks Jaṭilā: "What is your son's name?" But after she answers, Kṛṣṇa makes a show of calculating, and then feigns surprise, saying: "Oh Jarati (old women)! Your son faces many calamities, but fortunately, by your chaste bauma's grace he can side-step all of them!"Hearing the forecast makes Jaṭilā overjoyed. Thus, she quickly removes two precious gem rings from Rādhā's fingers, and places them before the brāhmaṇa clad Kṛṣṇa.

Ṭīkā: In just one Līlā our rasika cūḍāmaṇi accomplishes many tasks, He fools Jaṭilā in a brāhmaṇa's garb, amuses Rādhā with Rāsamaya Kathā containing amorous inner maening, and performs Rādhā's kalaṅka bhanjana (he removes Jaṭilā doubts about Rādhā's chastity to re-establish her firm faith in Rādhā).

In other words, through his skillful word-jugglery, Kṛṣṇa converts suspicious and nasty-spoken Jaṭilā into an affectionate śāśurī. So how could Śyāma-Vinodinī Rāi resist surrendering unto such a Guṇa-maṇi Nāgara?*

84 Meanwhile Subala comes to announce: "Hey Viśva Śarma! Kṛṣṇa is anxiously waiting! He wants to serve you and Madhumaṅgala a feast of milk and fruits!"

Ṭīkā: Subala has been watching behind the bushes. Seeing Kṛṣṇa deeply absorbed in the Sūrya Pūjā Rāsa he wishes to remind him that the Sakhās are anxiously waiting to start uttara goṣṭha (their return journey home). "And they might ever come here seaching for you, so come quickly!" Subala hints.

85 Viśva Śarma replies, "I don't accept food offered by non- brāhmaṇas. Today Gārgī has invited me for lunch, so now I'm going there. Oh Madhumaṅgala, you can take the Sūrya-naivedya."

Ṭīkā: Kṛṣṇa realises: "Aha! Soon I'll have to leave Rādhā!" But as Kṛṣṇa's mind being whirling a plan awakens: "Let me see my Priyā's moon-face a few moments more before bidding farewell. Jaṭilā thinks that Kṛṣṇa is at Kāmyavana (in the western direction), but my Rādhā will be heading north (towards Javat) ; so leaving with Subala for Kāmyavana won't do.

"Thus Kṛṣṇa tells Subala: "I'm already invited for lunch at Gārgī's house." Gārgī is Garga Muni's daughter, and the wife of Bhāgurī Muni. In going there, Kṛṣṇa can follow Rādhā's party for a short distance because Bhāgurī Muni lives beside the Javaṭa pathway.
