6.7 Kṛṣṇa makes everyone dance as He will
Caitanya Caritamrita 2.8.117-133
The Lord said, I have come here to you - prabhu kahe āilāma sthāne tomā
to know all these principles of truth
- ye lāgi' jñāne sei saba tattva-vastu 117
Now I have learned about the considerations of the goal (of life) - ebe se jāniluń nirṇaya sādhya
and the practice (to attain it). There is something more - sādhana
āche haya kichu āra
(My) mind (wants) to hear further. - mana śunite āge 118
Speak about the own forms of Krișna and Radha. - kaha svarūpa kṛṣṇera svarūpa rādhāra
What are the principles of truth about the tastes of divine love (and) divine love? - kon tattva rasa rasa prema
What are the principles of truth about (their) form? - kon tattva rūpa. 119
Have mercy and explain these truths to me. - kari kṛpā kaha āmāre ei ta tattva
Outside of you there is no one capable of doing it. - tomā-vinā nāre keha ihā nirūpite 120
Śrī Rāmānanda Rāya said, "I don't know anything about this topic. - rāya kahe, āmi nā jāni ihā
What you make me utter, that I utter as a message.
- yei tumi kahāo sei kahi āmi vāṇī 121
I recite Your like a reciting parrot - paḍi śikṣāya tomāra yena śuka-pāṭha
You are directly the Supreme Personality. - tumi sākṣāt īśvara
Who can understand Your dance (activities)? - ke bujhe nāṭa tomāra 122
You direct me in my heart - kara preraṇa hṛdaye
and on my tongue (appear) the words I speak. - jihvāya vāṇī kahāo
I do not know whether what I say is right or wrong. - nā jāni ki kichui kahiye bhāla-manda 123
The Lord said: of course I am a sannyasi of the mayavada school - prabhu kahe ta'ami sannyasi mayavadi
(and as a result) I do not know the transcendental truth about divine devotion, - nahi jani bhakti-tattva
floating in the philosophy that regards the body of an avatar as made of illusory energy. - bhasi mayavade 124
In the association of Sarvabhauma Bhattacarya - sarvabhauma-sange
my mind was purified
and I asked him to speak - mana mora ha-ila nirmala tanhare puchila kaha
about the transcendental truth of divine devotion to Krishna - krishna-bhakti-tattva 125
He replied: I do not know the topics on Krsna. - tenho kahe ami nahi jani krishna-katha
Everything is known by Ramananda Raya - sabe jane ramananda
(but) he is not here. - tenho nahi etha 126
Hearing of your greatness I came (to this) place of yours - suniya mahima tomara ailana thani tomara
and you honor me, knowing that I am a sannyasi - tumi more kara stuti janiya sannyasi 127
kibā vipra, kibā nyāsī, śūdra kene naya
yei kṛṣṇa-tattva-vettā, sei 'guru' haya 128
Why not, whether brahman, sannyasi or shudra, - kene naya kibā vipra kibā nyāsī śūdra
one who knows the transcendental truth about Krișna - yei kṛṣṇa-tattva-vettā
that one is a spiritual master. - sei haya guru 128
Tika: In other words Śri Caitanya says that after all he as sannyasi could be honored, if he knew kṛṣṣṇa-tattva,
because anyone, irrespective of his position in the varna-așram, can become a spiritual teacher if he will know the transcendental truth about Kṛṣṇa.
The truth about the Supreme Lord Shri Krișna has different levels, which are indirectly presented by Shri Caitanya in this conversation of His with Ramananda Raya, and correspondingly
there are different levels of teachers who can present certain truths about Krsna.
129 Do not deceive Me by speaking to Me as a sannyasi. - nā kariha vañcana more sannyāsī baliyā
Please satisfy my mind and tell me the complete truth - kara mana kahi pūrṇa tattva
about Krisna and Radha. - kṛṣṇa-rādhā
Although Rāmānanda Rāya was a devotee of the highest rank, - yadyapi rāya mahā-bhāgavate
who had attained the stage of divine love - premī
and His mind could not be covered by the illusory energy of krishna, -tāńra mana nāre ācchādite kṛṣṇa-māyāi
yet due to the intense desire of the Lord, - tathāpi prabhura parama prabala icchā
although Rāmānanda Rāya knew what was going on, -jānileha rāyera
his mind was in some confusion. - mana haila ṭalamala 130-131
Rāmānanda Rāya replied: I am like a dancing marionette - rāya kahe āmi naṭa
and you are the one pulling the strings. - tumi sūtra-dhāra
The way you make me dance is exactly that way I dance. - yei mata nācāo taiche cāhi nācibāra 132
Ṭīkā: Here the Transcendental Lord act directly on Rāmānanda Rāya confusing him. Otherways we are generally confused by the Illusory Energy - Maya.
My tongue is like an instrument with strings -mora jihvā vīṇā-yantra
and it is you who play this instrument. -tumi vīṇā-dhārī
That which comes to Your mind, - yei uṭhe tomāra mane
that is what I say. - tāhāi uccāri 133
