40-48 Daśa-daśa

40 Then Kṛṣṇa addresses Rādhā: "Hey Priye! Look, if we continue to move the Śārīs, quarrelling is bound to ensue. Let's just throw the dice and decide the winner by the highest number.

Ṭīkā: Kṛṣṇa: "Look, Kiśorījī! A dispute can never be resolved by arguing, so let's forego this match and start afresh. With this caturālī (cleverness) Kṛṣṇa saves Madhumaṅgala from the Gopīs' binding ropes.

41-43 "Oh Priye," says Kṛṣṇa, "Let's both throw the dice. The winner will be decided by the numbers. This game has ten numbers, and four of them are equal.
But of the six unequal numbers, one is the vāmañca (ten). You can take this one also. Thus, there are five numbers for you, and five for me.
Let's wager that the loser must embrace the winner's body in as many places as is shown on the winner's dice."

Ṭīkā: The Sakhīs can fathom that catura Nāgara-maṇi's one-sided match is meant to satisfy all his senses, by winning or losing. Nevertheless, they play naive because they know that Rādhā's ultimate satisfaction lies in Kṛṣṇa's happiness.

44-45 Then Rādhā throws the dice, scoring ten, and her Sakhīs laugh in amusement! But Kṛṣṇa feigns sadness and exclaims, "Ha Priye! You may take ten of my limbs by embracing your arms, two hands, two breasts, two cheeks, lips, and face with mine!"

Ṭīkā: The word daśa (ten) also means daṁśa (to destroy). Kṛṣṇa-Bhāvanāmṛta explains why this number makes the Sakhīs smile:
While throwing the dice Rādhā exclaims, "Daśa, daśa (ten, ten)!" Thus, to poke fun, Kṛṣṇa questions: "Hey Priye! Your vīṭī" (required number to add a new piece) has fallen, but you haven't scored daśa (ten). Thus, your repeated prayer, 'Daśa, daśa', simply sounds funny! So, what's the question of your victory?"

The inner meaning is :
"Hey Rādhe! Your repeated prayer, 'Daśa, daśa' (bite my lips, bite my lips!) sounds funny. The reason is because in rati Krīḍā you lose your vīṭī (consciousness) during viparita Vilāsa! So, what's the question of your victory?"

Kṛṣṇahnika-Kaumudī elaborates further:
After the fourth bet was set for the exchange of kisses, Prema maṇi Rāi turns shy; but still she's determined to win. And it's amazing, whatever score she desires, turns up. Yet Rādhā's Ramaṇa is prideful of his skill, too. So, then Rādhā raises her arms (exposing her breasts') and boldly exclaims, 'Daśa, daśa'! (Calling for ten).

A Sakhī then advises: "Hey bold one! Stop saying 'Daśa, daśa' (destroy, destroy)! Just look before you, there's a poisonous Kṛṣṇa-sarpa (black snake) standing ready to bite you! So be careful!"
Lalitā answers, "Rāi has two mahā-sarpi" (great female snakes) within her eyebrow- latās, and they've already destroyed the Kṛṣṇa-sarpa's poison. So, what's the harm?" 

Kṛṣṇa's suggestion to embrace his limbs in ten places brings a smile to the Sakhīs' faces, but Rādhikā lowers her head in shyness to answer:

46 "Oh referee Kundalate, I've won; but you can accept Kṛṣṇa's reward with your limbs (embrace his body in ten places)!"

Ṭīkā: Rāi-Vinodinī finally awakens from her stupor! "Hay, hay! What sort of embarrassing wager have I agreed to? The reward cannot be given, nor can it be accepted lest I become a laughingstock before this assembly. Thus, Rādhā passes the reward on to Kundalatā.

47-48 Then Kṛṣṇa throws four and five to score nine. Seeing him overjoyed, Kundalatā advises: "Hey Kṛṣṇa! Rādhikā has become too proud of her slight victory. So why don't you embrace her in nine places: Her two eyes, two cheeks, two breasts, forehead, lips, and face!"

Ṭīkā: Playing a beneficiary role, Śyāma Vinodinī Rāi foregoes her prize. Thus, Kṛṣṇa contemplates:
"If I insist that she take it, a fierce quarrel will break out. Better yet, let me use my wits to score a victory; then I'll be able to demand my desired objective. 

Although nine isn't the highest score, still it is enough to secure Kṛṣṇa's victory. Thus, Kundalatā declares: "Oh Kṛṣṇajī! Now you're eligible to embrace Rādhikā in nine places (these are the prescribed place for kissing a Sundarī-ramaṇī according to Vatsyayana Muni's Kāma-Śāstra Paddhatī). 

But Kundalatā further coaxes: "Kṛṣṇa! You'd better kiss Rādhikā firmly-and let the
Sakhīs' witness your prowess, this will curb all Rādhikā's previous victory infatuation!"
